Using Mobile Device Management to Optimise a Mobile Workforce

A comprehensive overhaul of Circle’s mobile strategy boosted the company’s efficiency and effectiveness.

The bespoke package of services provided by Mobile Working Solutions has delighted the management and staff at Circle Housing Group, not to mention their customers. Staff are better able to carry out their work, and operational costs are down by 20-30%.

The issue
Circle Housing Group (formerly Circle Anglia) manages sheltered and supported housing, providing an extensive range of support and maintenance services for 65,000 homes across the UK. The company prides itself on providing its residents with a rapid, effective response. Coordinating a geographically diverse workforce of over 2,200, many of them not IT-literate, requires mobile communications that are completely reliable and practical to use.


“We needed to manage a fleet of some 160 Samsung Smartphones,” said Dave Palmer, R&M Service Design Manager at Circle Housing Group. "Top of the requirements list were device lock-down and remote control, to maintain a standard protected configuration and to assist the users whilst mobile.”


The solution
Mobile Working Solutions (MWS) were commissioned to perform a comprehensive review into all aspects of Circle’s mobile operations. The recommendations of the report were accepted enthusiastically.


“I was really impressed how easily MWS was able to interpret our requirements and rapidly turn them into a deliverable Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution,” said Dave Palmer.


MWS then implemented a number of changes, including:

  • The installation of the MDM platform MobiControl (from SOTI). MobiControl was chosen after research showed that it completely satisfied the essential requirements of device security and management.
  • A customised training programme gave personnel clear guidance on usage and pre-empted common problems that may arise.
  • A number of bespoke solutions were designed and implemented. For instance, a secure email solution with native clients replaced an existing setup with significant licensing costs.
  • On-going support was provided, regarding all issues of using mobile technology, to advance company strategy.


The outcome
The changes implemented by MWS for the Circle Housing Group:

  • Allow staff to operate effectively within a reliable mobile framework.

  • Enable the company to further develop its mobile strategy and expand it to additional workers in other departments.

  • Unify and streamline the whole operation, reducing operational costs by 20-30%.
